Sharp R-520KS 2-Cubic-Foot 1200-Watt Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel
From Sharp

Sharp R-520KS 1200 Watts Stainless Silver Microwave Oven
Amazon Sales Rank: #10300 in Kitchen & Housewares Color: Stainless Sliver Brand: Sharp Model: R-520KS Dimensions: 13.38" h x 24.00" w x 19.13" l, 46.00 pounds

Good (and Loud) This is my 4th Sharp microwave and I'm really happy with this oven. Like others have said, it is loud, but with 1200 watts that really should be expected. It's fast, plenty big, looks great, and easy to clean. One concern is in the door button. This is a stainless steel microwave but the button that opens the door is made of very cheap plastic. It's not been a problem for our family of 2, but a family with more people opening and closing the microwave might want to pay particular attention to how flimsy it is. All in all, though, I certainly recommend this product. good, but ... Microwave is powerful, but noisy vibrations emanate from its right side. It sits in a nook, so we were able to solve the problem by putting some foam padding between the right side and the wall. Great Microwave! I highly recommend it! I bought the Sharp R-520KS Microwave to replace my old White Westinghouse that stopped working after Thanksgiving. I did alot of research before I bought this one. I was worried I wouldn't find a microwave that worked as well as my last one. The good thing is that I could finally replace my white microwave with stainless steel to match the appliances in my new house. Now I had an excuse to replace it. I was looking for a powerful 1200 watt microwave large enough to fit large dishes in, and this one had some of the best reviews, a decent price, and the stainless steel look I wanted. I also needed a counter top model since I have no under cabinet space to put one. This microwave works great! I also like how the control panel doesn't have elevated buttons making it easy to wipe clean with no chance of food or anything getting stuck in the buttons. It has some nice features like the hot water button (you tell it how many cups to heat), minute plus button, keep warm setting, and many others. I've probably used the hot water and minute plus features the most. There are sensor heating buttons, reheat buttons, and defrost buttons, although I haven't had a chance to use them as much yet. The ones I have used so far work great! My only minor complaint is the same as everyone else's, the buttons all look the same and the start/minute plus button and stop/cancel button are located in the midst of all the other buttons making it difficult to distinguish them quickly. Not too much of an issue, but it would have been nice if those features were located on the bottom or the corner of the display and were different than the others. It wouldn't keep me from purchasing this microwave since everything else is great and I'm sure I'll get used to them soon. The microwave is also pretty large, so you can fit alot in there. I've heated a cup of water and a dinner sized plate of food at the same time. All in all, this microwave works great, looks great, and was reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice looking, powerful, counter top microwave.

Why did I wait soooo long? This product should have been used in our motorhome a looong time ago. Countertop space is minimal so the top overlaying our stove is used as a workspace which makes using the burners almost impossible. Well, problem is solved with my Waring burner. It takes up very little counter space, element heats up quickly to the exact temperature I've set it for & distributes an even heat to the bottom of all my pans & skillets. The burner is NOT 900 watts like it is advertised BUT 1300 watts which I think contributes to the burner being more efficient. The unit takes awhile to cool down but with the built-in hand holds on each side, I just pick it up (not hot to handle at all) & set it outside to cool. If I were using it my home, I would move it to another part of the kitchen or utility rm to cool. The burner is all that it claims to be ... and more! Waring Pro Burner SB30 Waring Pro SB30 1300-Watt Portable Single Burner A profesional looking and operating burner. I use it for my pressure cooker and it works great. It takes a couple of minutes to heat up and maitains proper heat setting on a costant basis. Great product. cook Works GREAT!!! I do cooking demos and have tried several in the past that wouldn't get hot enought to cook the food, and this one will. It takes about 5 min. to heat up before its ready to use. It is stable and not to heavy to carry around.

Great Oven!! Horrible Shipping Company!!! I LOVE this oven, I've had it before!! Its PERFECT for Breads, muffins, cupcakes, cookies, etc!!!BUT, I DON'T use it for ANY greasy foods....Only because the oil (from the meats, chickens, etc)splatters, and SLOWLY gets stuck on the fan part(convection setting), and after a few months, the fan for the Convection oven setting slowly stops rotating at the speed it should. Its difficult to open up, and clean off the blades to the fan also. So, but as far as the oven goes, its great, for ALL PASTRIES!!! Cooks the breads, etc, evenly, and perfectly everytime!!! Pizza works very well in here too! We make our own 12" pizzas and use this oven ALL the time!! As far as the shipping company goes,"CEVA", IT'S AWFUL,AWFUL,AWFUL.*** Amazon should change the shipping company! They were LATE, after I waited way past my delivery time, they told me they were running late, and i had to wait a few hours more. they are NOT punctual at all, and they do not ring the bell.they leave the item at the front door!! No Good!!! Terrific Little Oven This is a wonderful oven BUT this model (the 31199XR) does NOT come with a rotisserie feature as advertised. I notified Amazon of this, but so far they haven't revised their description. Anyway, it does a super job with baking, broiling and convection! My experience with the shipping was a breeze ... they called and arranged for a drop off time, and were both friendly and prompt. Lovin the Oven People are so conditioned to seeing a huge traditional oven/stove in the kitchen that we put a white cabinet between our other cabinets to give the "look" of a traditional oven. However, my visitors are receptive to the fact that this is the ONLY baking appliance I own - I don't make Thanksgiving turkey, so what is the point? It sits on the kitchen cart (not sandwiched between cabinets or taking counter space) to heat frozen food, bake cookies and breakfast casserole, crisp garlic bread, roast red pepper - anything your traditional oven does and more. I LOVE, LOVE the convection part! Cooking thoroughly in half the time (really-keep an eye on it at first) and if cookies are left in too long, they don't burn (could get a little dry, but that's my fault)! I opted for the one with two racks for double the cooking - and you can do that with convection; did not find a need for the rotisserie model as I don't cook meat. $100 or thereabouts - worth way more in functionality and space-saving to me.

Nesco's basic Jet Stream Oven model, this 1,500-watt countertop unit cooks food up to three times faster than a conventional oven by rapidly circulating hot air with a high-speed fan. It roasts, bakes, toasts, and steams (inside foil packets containing liquid) food and uses hot air to simulate broiling and frying. It's especially useful for convenience foods such as frozen pizza, breaded fish fillets, pocket sandwiches, and frozen waffles. This model has a transparent top and measures 8-1/4 inches high, 17 inches wide, and 13 inches deep. By adding up to three expander rings of transparent plastic like the top, the model's height can be increased to accommodate a 20-pound turkey. (Expander rings are not included but are available separately.) The model also has two removable chrome cooking racks that can be adjusted to various heights for different foods. (The top rack also holds lightweight foods in place on the bottom rack.) A nonstick liner fits in the base to prevent it from reaching too high a temperature and to catch falling bits of food and moisture. It removes for easy cleanup, and, like the rest of the unit (except the power head), goes safely into a dishwasher. With the power head and hinge assembly removed, the base and liner can be used as a serving platter. For compact storage, the oven stands upright. It comes with a detailed instruction booklet that includes dozens of recipes. For easy use, the top of the power head displays a cooking-time chart for various foods such as baked apples (9 minutes), hot dogs (4 minutes), and cookies (5 minutes) and also shows whether they should be cooked at high or low temperature. --Fred Brack
I've had several but I too find they go out to easy.. I love cooking with them too but there seems to be a problem with belts breaking. I have owned about 5 of them and maybe get 2 hours use before belt breaks. I have just found out there is a belt that can be replace after I had discarded the other 4. I hope that there new 4000 or 4500 will have corrected tis problem.. Jet Stream Oven I love cooking with the Jet Stream Oven. It is a very healthy way to cook things crisp without adding extra fats. However, the ovens don't last very long. The motors give out quickly. if only it would last I enjoy using this oven but am disgusted because either the plastic cracks or the belt breaks much too quickly.

Graphic reminder Graphic reminder of just how horrible the Holocaust was. Not all that much footage, though...perhaps I didn't read the description well before ordering. However, there is enough to make the point that the Holocaust was a despicable squandering of life. Seller shipped fast and it arrived as described. Excellent Reference. I purchased this DVD to use in my American History class. It shows it like it was. Excellent documentary video presentation.

The toaster oven provides three user-friendly control knobs for selecting the temperature, time, and heat source (top, bottom, or both depending on the function desired). It even comes with a convection feature for cooking food up to 35-percent faster. The oven's full-range temperature-control knob ranges from 150 to 450 degrees F, and its 60-minute timer offers automatic shut-off with a bell signal or can be set to the "stay on" position. In addition, the appliance's extra-large capacity accommodates four slices of toast at a time, a 12-inch pizza, or a family-size casserole. Other highlights include a chrome-plated oven rack; three rack positions; a 12-inch flat, perforated pizza disc for browning and cutting; a bake pan and broil grid; a nonstick interior; a power indicator light; and a removable crumb tray for quick cleanup. The countertop oven measures approximately 15 by 18 by 10-1/5 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
Quality Control: Shakes, Rattles, but Will it Roll? I wrote two reviews for this oven because I ended up purchasing it twice. The first one shocked me with its terrible functioning, but as of purchasing the second one, I have no complaints with its operation (thus far). I wonder if these ovens suffer from some quality control issues. In order, here are my reviews: Review #1: This is quite possibly one of the worst appliances I have ever bought in my life and I seriously hope my model is simply defective. (1) It entire oven itself shakes and buzzes. The vibrations are terrible. (2) The glass door touches the front of the oven and makes a loud buzzing noise. If you push against the handle, it quiets down a bit, but it's still as loud as a hair dryer. Not a comforting noise, especially listening from another room. I would say it's like listening to a bathroom fan or a jackhammer (from 2 blocks away). (3) The fan is noisy. It starts and stutters and makes noises as if it is hitting the metal enclosure inside. If you've ever run your finger against a fan to hear the whup-whup-whup noise it makes, then you know what it sounds like. Except it's against metal, which is more worrisome. I was so excited when I bought it and now I'm just disgusted and sad instead. It was originally going to get 1 star because it cooked food as it was supposed to. I gave it another star for having options and features. But with an oven this noisy, it's not worth it. Especially if you're paying full price. I'm glad that I paid 1/3 of what it is listed at, at a Dept. Store. However, I nearly jumped out of my skin from fright when I started it and it is going back tomorrow. Extra note: Is it operator-error or an imbalanced countertop? I pulled out the contractor's level to double-check. My counter top is perfectly level, it was not sitting on anything unbalanced, and it was not touching any other appliances. It's the oven. Review #2: So being the ever-lasting optimist (or just someone who can't let a good deal go), I purchased another one. I noticed that one leg was shorter than the others, and created an imbalance, but decided to try it anyway. When I clicked the "on" switch and turned the dial to 400 degrees, I held my breath, stepped back, and cringed... but the fan turned on with a gentle and not unpleasant whir. This was markedly different than the last 74766 I purchased, which buzzed and rattled. So I conclude that perhaps it was just a quality control issue. But at the price these were originally sold at, I would have hoped there were no issues! However, now that the mechanical issues are out of the way, I can finally review the oven itself. It starts up relatively quietly and works well, has several features, though I didn't see a rotisserie option - that is in a different model, but it broils, bakes, and toasts. It comes with a very handy metal pizza disc, and can accommodate up to 12" pizzas and a whole roaster chicken; mind you - not at the same time. It is a bit large but not more than any 1.7 cubic ft. microwave, plus, it's shorter. There is a removable tray at the bottom (pulls out at the front for cleaning) and it comes in stainless or black knobs. I like the auto-shutoff timer option, and prefer the old-fashioned knobs to a digital interface. The oven itself seems sturdy enough, and has a nice metal handle (not plastic like others). It cooked quickly and relatively quietly. I am looking forward to roasting chickens and prepping dishes without needing my regular oven. But I can guarantee that I will be watching this oven closely for mechanical defects, which I'm sad about. If you buy something, you hope not to worry about it breaking! Nevertheless, if you're not paying full price for this oven, it's worth a try. Just buy two ;) Great Return on Small Investment The West Bend 74766 oven is wonderful for busy families. It's versatile enough to accomodate snacks, pizzas, biscuits, or whatever the need. It has become an essential tool in our kitchen and is used throughout the day. It has also eliminated the need to use our kitchen oven for smaller items, and we prefer it over our microwave. A great return on a small investment.

With 1300 watts of power, this family-size countertop microwave oven features 12 automatic menu categories, a 1-1/5-cubic-foot epoxy interior, and a 13-1/2-inch cook-a-round automatic turntable for even heating. Its one-touch sensor cooking adjusts power levels and calculates cooking times automatically, making reheating and cooking a variety of foods easier than ever. And for defrosting even faster than with auto defrost, the microwave's Inverter Turbo Defrost distributes microwave energy in a new and more efficient way, resulting in quicker, more thorough defrosting. In addition, a pulsing delivery of very low microwave power keeps food temperature at a constant level--without overcooking; the improved keep-warm menu now includes five items, so foods like stew, gravy, and desserts remain warm in the oven until they're ready to be served. Other highlights include a four-digit display panel, 10 power levels, five cooking stages, Quick Minute, more/less control, a popcorn key, delay start, and a timer. An attractive addition to any kitchen decor, the microwave oven measures 15-15/16 by 20-3/8 by 11-7/8 inches.
nuke em high At first I was dissapointed because it does not a true sensor. I had a microwave that you cook hit auto reheat, and it automatically adjusted the time itself (I usually had to give it another 30 sec.) But after I got the hang of this one, I liked it. Some cool features are the delay cooking timer, and the abilty to program something to cook at 2 different power settings. Heats stuff fast (cup of tea 1:10 secs) and the defroster is amazing-- no hot spots. Looks good; operates loud Just got this microwave today, which was quite fast. It arrived unscathed despite the dents and holes in the outside packaging material. It looks good, although the same basic box they all are, and I do like the glossy black on the doors. Thus far, it seems to do what it is supposed to do; however, it is far less easy to use and significantly less well engineered/designed than the almost 12 year old Sharp it replaces. The fact that it's many times louder than my old Sharp is most annoying and inexcusable. Additionally, unlike the ancient Sharp used as my reference, it does not allow one to disable the tones it emits when one uses the keypad or when the appliance alerts one that it has completed the job at hand. (And, from my vantage, those tones are overly loud as well.) The Sharp also basically had all the features this one has, except the inverter defrost, and was much more intuitive to use and, overall, required fewer steps to accomplish the same results. In summary, I suspect that this will function quite adequately for me and I will get used to its noisy operations. However, I also expect that I will not keep it for its full life, i.e., not anywhere near as long as the Sharp, and will almost certainly go back to a product made by Sharp. Great product, bad instructions This is a terrific oven. The feature that distinguishes it from other microwaves is described: "Its one-touch sensor cooking adjusts power levels and calculates cooking times automatically, making reheating and cooking a variety of foods easier than ever." It sounds good, but GOOD LUCK trying to figure out how to use it. The poorly written user guide covers two different product models with two different implementations of this feature. This guide has only one example, which, combining the instructions for both models, is nearly inscrutable. "One-touch" is also a lie: the feature requires use of two or more buttons, each of which must be pressed up to a half-dozen times. So even if you do figure it out, don't lose the manual because you'll never remember which foods require which combination of buttons. One of the auto-cook settings is for oatmeal: when I tried it, it threatened to go volcanic twice before I gave up. Never trust a microwave with oatmeal, even one with an oatmeal button. My guess is that only the most determined cook will figure out and use this feature, so for most people those will just be so many never-used buttons. Don't buy this oven for "easier than ever" cooking, buy it as your basic microwave oven. Hey, Panasonic, here are two tips: 1. Write different instructions for different models. 2. Have a few average people (not your engineers or designers) try to follow the instructions and see if they can get the product to work. Rewrite until they consistently succeed.

The pizza oven measures approximately 20-1/2 by 20 by 9-4/5 inches and carries a three-year limited warranty.
Not hot enough and stone not thick enough... I wanted to like the oven BUT to be a pizza oven you need good heat and a good stone. I make my own pizza dough and use my normal oven with a 1/2 inch thick stone. I wanted this oven because I could put it outside and not heat up the house pre heating the oven... this oven heats to 450 and I was hoping the small size would be sufficient... but the top will be almost burnt before the dough is proper... also it took the pizza about 20 minutes to cook while my normal oven did it in about 10 ... this longer cooking time can yield a harder crust than desired .... Maybe for normal frozen pizza this oven is okay but if you make your own dough and pizza you will not get the heat you need ..... bummer Perhaps I had a faulty one... I must have gotten a lemon. Mine just browned the outside edges and left the pizza center soggy. I tried it several times with the same results so I sent it back and got a full refund. Great Little Pizza Oven I got this for my office and right out of the box, starting making pizza for everyone. It works and looks great and the price was so reasonable. My only disappointment was, the stainless steel case was damaged in a visable area. It did not affect performance so I did not go through the hassle of returning it.

It also features convenient customizing options, including shade control and a 25-minute timer. Other handy features include an interior light, a removable crumb tray, a reminder beep, a 3-foot power cord, and a glass window in the door. At over 10 inches tall, this oven requires more vertical counter space than some models, but its efficiency makes up for the extra height. --Emily Bedard
A great toaster, but not for baking First I must say that this toaster oven makes better toast than any other toaster oven I have used. That said, there are a few things that disappointed me. 1. There is an on/off button. It would be better if using the other buttons turned it on automatically and it should turn off automatically when the cycle ends. 2. That light is bright! Very strange to have space-alien lighting emanating from the toaster over. A tinted door would be nice.3. Not good for baking. This oven does a great job of heating the surface, but not so great heating the center of things. Even cookies did not fare well.4. The oven is hotter in back and cooler in front. It even mentions this in the instructions. Large items such as pizza need to be rotated partway through heating.5. The temperature increments are weird and won't match most recipes. It does, however, make great toast. Even Pepperidge Farm's Texas Toast worked well. Any other toaster oven I have used has always toasted the top and bottom unevenly, leaving a crunchy top and soggy bottom. Grilled cheese sandwiches work great too. I love the Frozen Toast button - the button I use most. Hopefully Panasonic will correct the annoyances with the next model, but I'm still keeping this one. Greatest toaster ever made! This machine is the best toaster ever -- all my goodies come out evenly browned with just the right crunch factor. But it's best to think of it as a toaster, not a toaster oven. Let's talk about the "40% faster" advertising claim: this set me up to expect toast in microwave time. Not. It takes just as long as a pop-up toaster. But it does a far, far superior job. And let's talk about the "blinding light" complaint from some reviewers: Not. The machine uses visible light in the cooking, so imagine a 60 watt light bulb in a box -- it's not a problem at all. But it's weird at first how the light goes on & off to control the temperature. The little buzzer at the end of the cycle is melodic and pleasant. The quality is excellent, and the controls are sensical and well designed. All-in-all: This is one awesome machine. I'm emotionally bonded with mine, and I'm generally cranky about gadgets that don't meet advertising claims. This machine just makes such darn good toast & browns my bagels so perfectly that I can't part with it. Just the Facts Ma'am Oven uses 3 bulbs to heat instead of metal resistance heat,2 tubes (top+bottom)produce heat and 1 tube(top)produces heat and light.Button for light will activate bulb for a few seconds but since bulb produces heat it goes on and off by itself controlled by thermostat so there is a lightshow.Power is not cut when door is opened so be careful with children.Timer is limited to 25 minutes then oven shuts off,to extend cooking time requires setting timer again so it is more french fry friendly than baked potato friendly.Door is connected to rack which helps raise door since rack is spring loaded.Tray is square and holds small Freshetta brand pizza I enjoy, pictures here show teflon color but tray and interior are plain metal.Crumb tray slides out easily from front but front ledge of oven will collect crumbs since rack moves in and out above this area.I do not know how spills on tube will affect them, interior is heated so much by bulbs drips will turn to smoke requiring tray anyway.Display shows red LED which count down time other lights are red LED also.Toastmaking requires extra step to push on/off button before and after toastmaking and old time ding is replaced with soft beep like wristwatch so mornings will be peaceful.Feet provide air circulation under oven but produced tiny wobble on area I placed it due to uneven carpentry.Warranty card is sent to address in Colorado known for collecting marketing information. This toaster is for people who want something different and value their countertop real estate.

I'm Giving Up on Cuisinart...1
I've returned two of these toasters, purchased new, in the past week. The first bread toasted fine; the next four uses produced increasingly poor results. I took that one back in hopes that it would prove an aberration! Unfortunately on the first use, the second toaster browned one side of the bread and not the other. Hoping this may have been a "break-in" issue, I toasted another two pieces of bread; they only browned around the edges. The third attempt didn't even produce enough heat to dry out the bread. Additionally in the week before I purchased these, I had to return a four slice Cuisinart Custom Control to Amazon due to malfunctioning and design defects. (Amazon was wonderful, by the way!) So after three attempts at Cuisinart, I'm giving up. It seems their products are increasing poorly made and are not worth the premium dollars. Look elsewhere...

An overall great toaster for a family5
When we started looking for a new toaster after the death of our last, we realized we needed to upgrade to a 4 slot with our growing family. We live in a small apartment however and lots of counter space was out of the question. So first we got a Dualit, after reading all the reviews. Well, it needs to be prewarmed for best results and it gets incredibly hot to the touch, not too great for little fingers. So back it went and more reviews to read. We ended up getting the Cuisinart Cool Touch and although we worried about the reviews that mentioned an uneven warming problem, it hasn't happened for us. The toaster toasts quickly and well and yes, evenly on both sides--so far both toast and bagels have been great. It's easy to use and clean, has a great "lift the toast higher" feature and doesn't get hot on the outside. Oh and yes, it doesn't take up much room on the counter. So far, the best toaster we've ever had.

OK Toaster3
While I love the features for this toaster: 9 toasting settings, a cancel button, reheat, bagel, and defrost buttons - it only toasted evenly for a couple of months. (and not on the "bagel" feature). Waffles come out toasted in the middle and soggy on the edges. Toast comes out light on one side and a dark on the other.

Great for my needs4
I really only use the microwave for popcorn, heating up meals, and heating up coffee. It's been absolutely perfectly fine for that. One minor, minor thing is: there's no light on the inside when you open the door. That bugs me.

Much better than expected, and it does what it's supposed to do4
We bought this because our over-the-range microwaves kept melting, and that was getting to be very expensive. This Sharp stays on a kitchen counter, and is relatively small so it fits very nicely next to our new toaster. This is our fifth microwave in 40 years. I don't know what others use their microwaves for, but 90% of the time, ours is used to heat water for tea, reheat pizza and other dishes, and maybe even reheating coffee (we're not coffee snobs and, in fact, we've never been in a Starbucks). We do not cook meals in a microwave, period. If what you want is a basic microwave, this could well be the one. However, note that the front black window is plastic, and the stainless steel is the thinnest gage made. Still, it cleans up nicely, doesn't scratch readily, and the controls are the simplest. One or two touches and you can accomplish most basic "cooking" or reheating. It's certainly well worth the price ... although $24 for shipping was a bit high.

Serves the purpose.3
Bought this compact microwave due to my over the stove built in GE Spacemaker XL magnatron taking a dump. Still had GE's 10 year free parts warranty left on the magnatron. GE wanted $275.00 labor and service call fee to replace it. Decided on the no frills 0.8cu ft Sharp Carousel.
I'm sure I could have gotten a better price had I invested more time and energy looking around, but Amazon has always done right by me with no shipping charge and no sales tax.
This Sharp model is a bottom of the line unit. It is cheaply made, rattles, is dull looking and the clock does not light up. The light inside the oven only works when the unit is running. The door is cheaply made and has a somewhat hollow sound when it closes. All of that said, the unit does what it is supposed to do. It heats evenly and reheats well. Seems powerful for it's wattage and makes popcorn just as well as expensive units. Bottom line, it's fine for what I need.

Avoid the Sharp R-230 (and other Sharp appliances)1
This microwave oven worked fine for 7 weeks.
I used it to heat soup, and for oatmeal in the morning.

One morning it just broke.
The door closed, the light and fan came on, but there was no heat.
It emitted a burning plastic smell.

Sharp service told me that I needed to have a Sharp-authorized technician examine it before it could be replaced.

Unfortunately, the nearest Sharp-authorized service location is a two-hour round trip drive for me. They don't accept shipments, nor are they are not open on weekends.

This means that in order for me to obtain warranty service on this relatively new product I would have to *take a day off work*, as it is too far to drive on my lunch hour.

Also, one cannot return a product to Sharp for examination; as per the warranty you must "hand carry" or ship the item to a service location
(if the service location accepts shipments; mine doesn't).

So I believe my current options are:
1) find a local microwave service place, and pay for the service myself
or
2) throw the oven away

I recommend not purchasing this microwave oven because it may break soon after purchase.

I recommend not purchasing any Sharp appliance unless you know that a Sharp-authorized service location is close by.

Best Regards and Good Luck!

Mark

Serves its purpose well4
I purchased this microwave as an addition to my dorm room. I would have liked a high-powered microwave, but restraints on space and money stopped me. For the price and for the size, this microwave works rather well. There are some extra functions, but I just use the regular microwaving. The only thing that I do not like about the microwave is that its internal rotating dish is not very stable, and is prone to shifting off its base with even a slightly unbalanced load. Even so, it was a worthwhile purchase.

Worst Microwave I've Ever Owned1
Buying a compact microwave should be straightforward, right? We thought so. We purchased this one and paid more for this Sharp brand than other lesser known brands. We've had it for 5 months, and the membranes covering the buttons are about to wear through. You can barely read the buttons now, and I fear once the membrane is stripped that the buttons will be inoperable. For a simple product from a premium Japanese brand this is simply unacceptable. Try your luck elsewhere.

Moringware HO1200M-WOR Infrared Halogen Oven
From Morningware

The Morningware Infrared Halogen produces results that will amaze you and is the best cooking combination available on the market today. The patented process uses conduction, convection, halogen and infrared rays. Cooks food quickly and easily while retaining moisture, tenderness, and still browning and crisping without adding additional fats or oils. The Infrared waves create a grease release and starts immediately to liquefy the naturally occurring fats in foods, along with calories, drip into the glass drip tray, leaving food healthier and amazingly tender and tasty. Foods cook in half the time, from fresh or frozen, without any preheating or defrosting. The speed of the infrared heating eliminates the chance of harmful bacteria to grow as in a normal defrosting. Our 1200-watt halogen heating element provides a bright light for viewing the cooking process and uses up to 85-percent less energy than your regular oven while promoting a healthier food preparation with the smallest carbon footprint in its oven class. The oven is smokeless, odorless and won't heat up your kitchen. Anything you would cook in your regular oven can be prepared in our oven. You can bake, broil, roast, barbeque, grill, and dehydrate. It’s great for re-heating leftovers and for fast preparation of purchased frozen meals. Our glass tray along with the plastic base provide for a true and elegant Cook and Serve oven to table feature. Oven comes with a 1-inch to 3-inch reversible stainless steel rack and a dome holder. A quick reference cooking chart, owner’s manual, recipe booklet, and a 1-year limited warranty. When you cook foods in half the time, you give healthy foods a chance to taste the way they are suppose to taste, without drying out, loss of nutrients, or burning.

By using a combination of conduction, convection, halogen light, and infrared rays, this energy-efficient countertop oven not only cooks food up to 50-percent faster than conventional ovens, but it also creates instant heat, eliminating the need for preheating the oven or defrosting food ahead of time. The unit's fast infrared heating eliminates the chance of harmful bacteria growth as with normal defrosting, plus the infrared waves liquefy naturally occurring fats in foods, releasing the grease into the glass drip tray for healthier results. Use the oven for anything from baking, broiling, and roasting to barbecuing, grilling, dehydrating, or re-heating leftovers. Food cooks and browns quickly and evenly and meat stays juicy and tender inside yet perfectly seared on the outside. In addition, the unit offers smokeless, odorless operation that won't heat up the kitchen, and it can hold up to 8 pounds of meat or cook up to a 16-pound turkey with the extender-ring attachment (not included).

rom the bottom up, the unit features a plastic base, a nonstick glass tray, a dual-position stainless-steel grill, an FDA-approved polycarbonate dome, and a halogen powerhead with a user-friendly digital control panel. Choose from one of four levels for a preset time and temperature or manually set the cooking time and temperature from 190 to 400 degrees F. A sound beeps at the end of the cooking time, and the appliance automatically decreases the temperature to 190 degrees F to keep the food warm for up to three hours. Other highlights include a one-hour 59-minute delay timer, an interior light, and a dishwasher-safe design (except for the power head) for easy cleanup. A quick reference cooking chart, owner's manual, and recipe booklet come included. The 1200-watt halogen oven measures 13 by 11 by 14 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty."

WORKING GREAT FOR TWO PLUS YEARS NOW and STILL GOING5
Love this oven. I don't know how much electricity has been saved since we hardly ever use our large oven any more. I would bet it's quite a bit, not to mention all the heat we keep out of the house. " Which is a good thing when you live in Florida ". We generally use this oven a couple of times a day, so it definitely has had plenty of use in the last 2 years and it's still working like the day we got it. Nearly every thing I cook is done in here. Unlike a microwave oven, meat, fish and chicken brown beautifully, also works great on garlic toast. This works out just fine for the 2 of us, since we don't make large meals, even though this will hold a 8 or 9 lb roast or turkey " Larger if you order it with the optional extender ring " This does cook quite a bit faster than a conventional oven, but not as fast as they say it does. And yes it does cook from frozen, it will take longer of course. There cooking chart tells you how long to cook individual items that are frozen or not frozen. All and all this oven has worked out exceptionally well for us, we would be lost without it.

The digital timer can be set from minutes to hours, depending on your needs. The temperature can also be set from 190 deg. to 400 deg. When the timer turns off, the temperature will automatically reset to 190 deg and keeps your food at that safe temperature till you turn the oven off. A nice thing about this oven is the interior is lit up, so you can watch everything cooking. This oven is extremely easy to clean, there is a heavy glass liner on the bottom that comes out easily and is dishwasher safe. That goes for the stainless steel rack also. For most items we generally put aluminum foil on top of the rack, so cleanup is a snap we just throw the foil out. The clear plastic dome very rarely needs cleaning, since the food rarely splatters. But if it does, it's just a matter of wiping it out with a damp cloth.

About 3 1/2 years ago I bought the NuWave oven from a TV commercial. I cost about $130 with shipping the oven and a extra plastic gadget they give you, but have to pay shipping for. It stopped working in 13 months, one month after the guarantee was up. I liked the way it cooked, but decided to look for an alternative oven. I found this one for less money, without the extra gadget and free shipping. So far I am very well pleased with it, and would highly recommend it.
BY THE WAY the name is MORNINGWARE NOT MORINGWARE as Amazon has it spelled.

very happy with Deni convection oven4
we've used convection ovens foryears and have gone through several, from plastic bowls to glass. we are very happy with this oven, which is glass, because it is easy to clean, works well, and the temperature goes up to 450, which other ovens do not. we would purchase another one.

Can't Compete With A JetStream Or FlavorWave Oven !4
Hello all, I have had my Deni oven for about 5 years now and it still works fine ! I have had at least 5 Jetstream Ovens burn out on me over the last 15 years or so,none lasting much over a year ! But I tell you no lie the Jetstream Ovens puts the Deni and the FlavorWave to shame when it comes to cooking things like Air Fried Chicken, pizza and hot dogs ! I did not have to turn my chicken over when I used the Jetstream Ovens because of the high air output of the Jetstream Ovens"4000 RPM fan speed"! But I do have to turn the chicken over when it comes to the low air output of the Deni and FlavorWave ovens!

The Deni and FlavorWave are far more durable then the Jetstream Ovens, but when it comes to cooking, they just can't compete, their air output is way too low !!! The FlavorWave cooks far better then the Deni,on a scale of 1 to ten...10 being the highest I would give the FlavorWave maybe a high 7 to a low 8,and I would give the Deni a five or low 6,but the JetStream Ovens I would give a high 9 or 10 ! I hate the fact that the Jetstream Ovens don't last long, and I wish I could find a durable low priced convection oven with the same high 4000 RPM fan speed of the Jetstream Ovens, but after looking for many years I have had no luck what so ever !

I give the Deni a 4 out of 5 over all rating because I love how durable and reliable it is ! The Deni seems to be the most durable out of the 3 ovens! But as far as cooking goes,it needs a far more powerful fan in it! When I cook pizza in the Deni the top comes out fine but the bottom comes out soft and half uncooked! I have to overcook the top in order to cook the bottom the way I like it! The FlavorWave did a better job with the pizza! On a scale of 1 to ten I would give the Deni a 4 on pizza, the FlavorWave would get a 7 or 8 and the Jetstream would get a 9 or 10! I must warn you that the Jetstream can blow any light weight toppings on the pizza around if you don't put a rack right above the pizza to hold and keep the toppings in place. But to me that's a small price to pay. As far as air fried chicken goes that is where the JetStream Oven blows the Deni and the FlavorWave completely away !

I would rate the Deni a 4, the FlavorWave a 7 and the Jetstream oven a 10 + when it comes to Air Fried Chicken . The FlavorWave gets a 7 because it does a good job on the chicken, its nice and juicy on the inside and the skin is done fairly well . Now when it comes to the Jetstream..not only is the chicken nice and juicy, but the skin is cooked to Perfection!!!! It comes out better then real fried chicken skin, but without all the grease ! I am hooked on the Jetstream oven mostly because of how great of a job it does on cooking Air Fried Chicken !!!

Let me say it again, I hate the durability or lack of durability of the Jetstream ovens, and I and many others wish Nesco would make their ovens to last !
Nesco won't even offer an extended warranty on their Jetstream ovens,so what does that tell you about the quality or lack of durability of the Jetstream ovens ? But it still looks like I have to buy another Jetstream oven if I want the best Air Fried Chicken in town ! I still wish someone would make a high air output convection oven that is durable,so that I could tell Nesco where to go with their great cooking, low durability, falling apart, and cracking into many pieces Jetstream ovens !!!!!!!

As far as the Deni oven goes,I can say it is very very durable,no melting parts,no cracking,no falling apart ! On the other hand,it is only so so when it comes to cooking with its weak low speed fan !

Here's how I rate the 3 ovens on a scale of 1 to ten 10 !

Deni
Durability 10
Cooking 5

FlavorWave
Durability 9
Cooking 7 or 8

Jetstream
Durability 3
Cooking 9 or 10

Not a Jetstream Oven2
I was looking for a replacement for my Jet Stream Oven. The Jet Stream procuces wonderful results but I am having to replace the lid and pan every year or so. I wanted something that held up longer so I tried this product. I takes longer to cook and does not produce the same results. The food gets brown on the top but not on the bottom. Also crispy type foods are not as cripsy as the jet stream. The oven gets very hot on the outside. The main problem I think is the Jet Stream moves the air at very high velocity and the Deni is know where near as fast. I will go back to buying replacement parts for jet stream to get the quility.

DeLonghi XU120 Alfredo Toaster Oven

The very appearance of this Italian-designed oven puts it a cut above the average toaster oven. But it has more than looks going for it. The DuraStone-enameled porcelain interior distributes heat evenly for maximum consistency in cooking. Bake, broil, toast, top-brown, and keep-warm functions make this an ideal multifunction family oven. Its large toasting capacity accommodates up to 6 slices of bread, a 10-inch pizza, or a small chicken. The toast color selector and an end-of-cycle signal with auto shutoff help you make toast the way you like it.

A simplified selector dial allows you to control the cooking program and temperature, and the oven bottom opens for easy crumb removal. The porcelain interior wipes clean with a cloth. Bake and broil pan, baking rack, and instruction booklet with recipes are all included. --Matthew Evans

Adm. Assistant1
The Delonghi toaster oven that I purchased less than a month ago has greatly disappointed me. The front glass does not stay in place and in less than 2 weeks after purchasing, the front won't even stay shut. The spring broke. Very disappointed for the [price] I paid for it.

Best toaster oven I used5
I've had my DeLonghi for about 6 mos. Prior I've used Black & Decker toaster-ovens. It's superior as an oven, it heats and cooks evenly and quickly. The enamel pan is super easy to clean. With 2 teenagers, and no microwave, it really gets a work out. It's a great oven! The toaster holds 6 pieces of bread, and though it makes good toast, it's slow. If you're in a hurry for toast, buy a toaster. But for us, that's ok. I'm completely satisfied with it and highly reccomend it, I've had no problems with it at all.

Piece of junk1
After a few months, the heat of the oven melted the hinges of the glass door and warped the handle. I had to throw it out. Even when it was working, the toast, was not evenly browned, striped on one side and was very dry. This is the second product of this company which has given me trouble. I've learned my lesson.

The especially unique aspects of the InfraWave are its ability to 'know' how to cook your food based on the settings you choose. Has 65 digital pre-settings for one-touch ease. Includes two trays, a slide rack and a handle to pull the trays out. Dishwasher safe pan for added convenience, simple, and quick clean up.

Unlike conventional or convection ovens, this state-of-the-art countertop oven uses infrared-light technology to evenly cook the inside and outside of foods simultaneously. Superior browning and crisping capabilities seal in flavor, whether cooking meat, poultry, or fish, and toast comes out perfect every time. The appliance cooks up to 50-percent faster than a conventional oven, with no pre-heating or thawing necessary, making it possible to pull dinner out of the freezer and have it fully cooked and ready to serve in no time. In fact, many dishes can be cooked in 20 minutes or less. There's also no need to worry about what temperature to cook at since the intelligent profiling system cycles the cooking lights according to the type of food being cooked. The oven provides a control panel with an LCD screen and 65 digital pre-settings for one-touch ease of use. For example, select from functions including pizza, quick foods, cookies, toast, reheat, bake/roast, or broil, and the digital display allows for scrolling through a variety of detailed choices. It also comes with a rotisserie spit and setting for rotisserie cooking poultry. Best of all, the units convert menu lets you enter the temperature and time for a favorite recipe, then automatically converts it to InfraWave time. Accessories include a dishwasher-safe broil rack and bake pan, a removable crumb tray, a handle to pull the trays out, and an instruction manual. The 1500-watt countertop oven with rotisserie measures approximately 14 by 13-3/4 by 10 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

There is a reason most recipes are with frozen food...3
This oven only does slightly better than a typical rotisserie or toaster type oven. If you are broiling a steak, unless you like your meat well done, you should start with frozen meat in order to get a browned surface with a pink center. The recipe book that comes with it only has a few examples and the pre-programed selections do not accomplish a proper product without adjustments to the time. It has a setting for rising crust pizza (like DiJourno) which starts with 14 minutes. A regular oven is 22 to 25 minutes. At 14 minutes, the pizza had risen but the crust was still very soft and the cheese was not even browned at all. I added time, and ended up at over 20 minutes with a pizza that was too soft and floppy. The same with frozen french fries. I expected a web site that would give more direction in how to use the oven but all the B & D web site has is the recipe book in pdf form.

As far as the rotisserie, the oven is not really big enough to even accomodate a medium sized chicken. I did do a small pork roast which came out nicely done. But it had to be a small roast to not touch the element guards. For the price, I was rather disappointed.

blackbeauty5
I am very impressed with the Infrawave Oven by Black & Decker. I was watching TV and saw the commercial for the item. I thought that nothing could be this good - but all of my expectations have been met. The Oven is as good as they advertised on TV. Dealing with Amazon.com has always been a pleasure.

this product reduces cooking time by eliminating preheating. the foods turn out exactly as if you used your full sized oven. this oven is great for fast foods. i.e. pizza, toast, bagels, reheat leftovers. it is also ideal because it does not heat up your kitchen like a traditional oven does. i recommend this product.

Emerson .9 Microwave oven5
The first one I received didn't work. I sent in a quiry received a reply and got postage to send it back UPS. I did and within days the replacement came. It works fine. I like the controls on it. It has a lot of options and quick cooks. It's the right size for my apartment too since it's 900 volts it's doesn't overload the circuits.

Where's the timer?2
The other reviewer is incorrect about the microwave's (in)ability for specific cooking time input. All you have to do is hit the Power Level button first, then the numbers will allow you to input any time you want, 8 seconds or 45 seconds or whatever. I have the same 8992sb that the other reviewer has.

I've had the microwave for 3 months, and for the most part it has worked very well and is very easy to operate. One minor flaw is that the Popcorn button, when pressed once, defaults to settings for a 1.75 oz bag of microwave popcorn. This is the "mini" bag size that isn't very common. Most microwave popcorn comes in a slightly larger bag, and to set for that you have to push the Popcorn button TWICE to get to the correct setting. This is counter-intuitive, as the majority of microwave popcorn on store shelves is the larger size. It took me a few bags of popcorn to figure that out, and I had a LOT of unpopped kernels until I looked back at the manual and then at my box of popcorn to see that the microwave doesn't default to the most common size. But that's minor.

The major flaw with this microwave is WHERE IS THE KITCHEN TIMER? Most new microwaves nowadays have a kitchen timer. The store where I bought this microwave lists that it has a kitchen timer. This site lists that it has a kitchen timer, and this microwave has the exact same button display as mine. The owner's manual does NOT list a kitchen timer. I have pressed every button on the thing, and there is no timer. I tried adjusting the power level from 1 - 10. Power level 1 still turns on power, and there is no Power Level 0.

I used the kitchen timer on my old microwave all the time. When I bought this one, multiple sources listed it having a kitchen timer. But there is no timer. If I had known before I bought this microwave that it had no timer function, I would NOT have bought it.

Not worth the price1
It was a good microwave... for awhile. Then it decided to blow up. I haven't even had it a year. I spent a little more for what I thought would be a better microwave, but I'll stick with the cheapies from now on--they last longer. Btw, to get the parts to fix this microwave cost more than the original purchase of the microwave! Ridiculous.

From the author5
I wrote the All New Kitchen Idea Book for Taunton Press, and I'd love to add a few thoughts about this edition, especially since there are three Kitchen Idea Books listed on Amazon. We started out in the late 1990's with The Kitchen Idea Book, then completely revised it for the new millennium as The New Kitchen Idea Book, and now for 2009, the completely all-new book is, well, the ALL NEW KITCHEN IDEA BOOK (look for "Kitchen" in big red letters). So, while you could buy the earliest book for just a few quarters, you'll be looking at older kitchens! This is the book for today's kitchens. It features all new kitchens (including small kitchens, 2-cook kitchens, and a multitude of styles, from modern to traditional and everything in between), new text (with tips on green design and comparative material and equipment costs), plus an annotated resource list. Text is short and pithy because the hundreds of photos are the real story--and this book has more photos and pages than the two previous books! Photos and supplementary drawings are grouped by subject: style and layout (the island, dining and workspaces, etc.), cabinets, pantries & open shelving, appliances, sinks & countertops, flooring & walls, and lighting. A great move by Taunton was to design it not as an oversized coffee-table hardback but as a high-quality paperback. It's a handy size to load up with sticky notes and slip it in your bag for visits to your designer, or--for DIYers--to suppliers. I think of it as a hard-working book for budget-conscious times. Best of luck with your new kitchens and kitchen renovations!

Visually exquisite... with practical information... represents a multitude of styles. A joy for anyone fantasizing about a new kitchen!

Sharp sent us a new microwave!!!1
To Whom It May Concern:
On 3/6/2007 we received a NEW Sharp R-530ES 2-Cubic-Foot 1200-Watt Microwave from Sharp Electronics. It is exactly the same as the one we had a problem with. The defective microwave is being sent to their evaluation center to be taken apart and examined. I also enclosed the shattered glass turntable and the towel that caught fire when it touched the glass turntable. The unit has a very bad burn smell inside it. We are pleased with the outcome of this complaint and especially pleased that they will be evaluating the microwave for manufacturing defects. After the incident it was removed and was not used again. We were afraid to use it.
I hope that they will let us know the results of their evaluation.

On 3/21/07 I filed a complaint with the BBB against Sharp Electronics and on 3/29/07 they called me and said they were sending us a new unit.

On Tuesday, 3/13/2007, my husband put tomato sauce in a PYREX brand clear bowl in the microwave to heat it and set it for 3 minutes. At the end of 1 minute he smelled smoke and it was the microwave!! The glass turntable had heated up so hot that the glass carousel shattered and when he touched it with a kitchen towel , the towel burned and caught fire. The PYREX bowl was cool and the sauce was cold. The house filled with smoke and smelled for 4 days.I was concerned that it was an internal flaw in the unit and others would do the same to other consumers.
I called SHARP immediately and told them what happened and gave them model number and the details of what happened and they said they would get back to me.THEY SAID NOT TO USE THE UNIT. They called again the following day ( Wednesday ,3/14 )and asked more questions and then again on Thursday 3/15 they called again. They kept me informed and on Friday March 16, 2007, they called again to tell me SHARP would do nothing and basicly didn't care what happened to us or the microwave. They didn't even offer us a new glass turntable to replace the broken one. I pulled the unit out and will not use it again, but SHARP does not stand by their products. We were treated badly and like we didn't matter at all. We are very upset at the way they handled it. They didn't care at all that this model could pose a danger to others that own it. I thought they would want the unit to take it appart to see why this happened, but they couldn't have cared less about what happened.
This was the 3rd SHARP 2.0 cubic foot microwave for us in 3 years. The first started making an electrical noise 2 days after we had it a year and the second did the same at a little more than a year old. Then we bought this one at Amazon. All were 2 cubic feet and 1200 watts and expensive microwave ovens.

BAD! BAD! BAD!1
Our first one showed up badly damaged and Amazon did a great job getting a new one to us straight away. The second one never worked, it sounded like a tank and then just died. Stay away!

Sharp R-530ES3
Nice unit but vibration noise when operating. Bought 2 reconditioned units from other vendors and both were defective.
